Compass London North: The New Settlement with Neal Lawson

We live in a moment of profound challenge, opportunity and danger. The intertwined challenges of climate collapse and economic upheaval present major obstacles, but they also provide an opportunity for a transition to a more equal and sustainable world – or risk a slide into authoritarian populism if the former fails. There is a desperate and urgent need – and demand – for a clear vision of a better society, one that will lead us through the multitude of crises we are facing today.

In 1945, when in a time of crisis, a broad society-wide coalition came together to put in place a new settlement that would endure for 30 years. It was comprised of big Labour figures with experience of wartime administration and big Liberal ideas from Keynes and Beveridge, plus a plethora of movements and campaigns – not least the trade unions.

We need an equally ambitious new narrative in the context of our time. We need a New Settlement: a fresh set of economic, environmental and democratic ideas fit for the 21st century capable of tackling the big challenges we face.

Compass London North will be joined by Neal Lawson, Director of Compass, and a guest speakers to explore what the new settlement will look like. From public services to levelling up to climate action – we will discuss the long-term requirements we want and need to deal with such issues.

Join us at The Jacksons Lane community hub, Highgate, London, N6 5AA Wednesday 29th March 6:30pm and be part of this vital discussion.
