Here are the notes from the Compass Board Meeting on the 24th March 2025.
The meeting covered wide-ranging updates and discussions from all areas of Compass’ work. Key points included the financial forecast for the year, predicting a small surplus of over £15,000, with a need for an additional £190,000 in income. Our first issue-based campaign for years in Our Water, Our Way has been successful, with 15 coalition partners and significant list growth. Local groups have been also been active during the campaign, with several events held across the country and our motions on water-ownership passing through CLPs. A community of practice day for local groups are also being planned so expertise can be shared and to give everyone a chance to meet eachother. The editorial team is preparing the first issue of the Renewal journal, which is being taken over by Compasss, with a focus on cross-promoting membership. Our conference in May was also discussed, and will be aimed at boosting engagement in our work and recruitment. The conference planning also emphasised a mix of session types, including keynotes, workshops, and cultural events to make it as dynamic and exciting a day as possible. Governance issues were addressed, with a focus on improving some of the formal processes while maintaining informal engagement with members. Board recruitment involved interviewing five candidates, with two recommended: John Jackson for his campaign strategy expertise and Pablo John for his energy and public affairs experience. The goal is to balance board composition and maintain overall organisational stability. Goals for the next quarter were also presented to the board.
