Worth reading: 'The Spirit Level: Why More Equal Societies Almost Always Do Better' by Richard Wilkinson and Kate Pickett.

Excellent interview;unfortunately,I fear that we are now,in JK Galbraith's words,in a society marked by public squalor and private wealth.
Here in Cornwall, there are people whose wages are so low that they cannot even afford to rent a decent home, nor undertake any form of training in the hope of improving their prospects.
The benefits system conspires against the maintenance of realistic aspirations and thus too many, mainly young people, lose hope and give up.
As Ms Lister rightly points out,an overhaul of benefits and taxation policies could provide a remedy for an increasingly sick society.

Do you realize that if one person gathered up half of the money in the country, it would double the value of the remaining currency?
Conversly, if you doubled the amount of currency, it would reduce the value of all denominations by 50%.
The RAF bombed Germany with counterfit money to ruin their economy during WWII and it worked. Not because the money was counterfeit, but because the volume reduced the value proportionately to the whole.
Limiting income to some, does not leave more for others, it only soothes feelings of jealousy and inferiority and ruins the economy for everyone.
The ecomomy will never fully recover until people realize this.
