Rosie Rogers appointed National Coordinator

Tuesday, May 01 2012

Compass are delighted to announce that Rosie Rogers has been appointed to the role of National Coordinator. Ruth Lister, Chair of the Management Committee has welcomed Rosie to the team:

On behalf of the Management Committee I'm delighted to welcome Rosie to the Compass team. Rosie's wide experience together with her enthusiasm and energy will be a great asset to us. Building on the invaluable work Gavin did to help build Compass to its current strength, Rosie will play a pivotal role in further strengthening Compass as a membership organisation committed to achieving the good society.

Rosie has responded to her appointment by saying:

I am delighted to be appointed to this role. I have a long standing background of grass roots mobilising and organising and I am excited about working with the membership to broaden and unite our network and continue in evolving Compass to be a strong coalition that cannot be ignored.

I have a background in promoting equality and social justice in my personal and professional life. Previous to this role, I worked at a human rights organisation in India, the World Development Movement and a homeless charity in North London where I gained lots of experience in ensuring the smooth running of dynamic offices and organising key events. I am very involved in the anti-cuts movement and have been involved in various campaigns to highlight alternatives to these ideological cuts including UK Uncut and UK Uncut Legal Action. I also run a cooking club for homeless women, a homework club for children and am an active member of UK Legal Feminist Group and other campaigns including the Move Your Money campaign.

I am very eager to hit the ground running in my new role. I know I have big shoes to fill and I am looking forward to ensuring that the membership and the wider movement can progress together to make our shared vision a reality.

Rosie will be joining us on June 6th and to ensure that Rosie can hit the ground running and Compass are equipped to face the challenges ahead we need to raise £25,000. You can donate to the appeal at http://action.compassonline.org.uk/2012appeal . In the mean time please bear with us as it may take longer than usual for us to respond to any queries and process membership updates.

Good luck Rosie
In welcoming you I hope you are able to make clear that NEw Labour is finished and unless it faces reality Labour is over too.
There has to be a clear and unequivocal break from the past beginning with a clear out after the Mayoral election on Thursday.

See if you can move Compass a bit to the left please Rosie. It's too right-wing at the moment.

I wish you every success.

Rosie will bring something wonderfully fresh to Compass and through that make the organisation much stronger as a whole. Brilliant news!

What a fantastic appointment!

Rosie was pivotal in making UK Uncut such a powerful, energetic and enlivening force on the British left. Her energy and sense of humour are incredibly powerful. Compass will be a bigger, bolshier and braver organisation with Rosie on board.
