Compass operate a rolling internship programme throughout the year, internships last between 2-3 months and you'll ideally need to commit approximately at least 2 days a week. Ideal candidates will be dynamic, have excellent organisational skills, plenty of common sense, able to manage your time effectively, work to deadlines and to use your own initiative.
You'll be working on essential admin tasks such as database updating and mailings; other days you'll be helping with event management and membership organisation or updating the website, you may also be required to provide support for our research projects. A flexible outlook at all times is therefore essential. You'd ideally be able to dedicate a minimum of 2 days a week.
This is an excellent opportunity to gain essential experience working in the office of the UK's most influential political pressure group.
Expenses will be covered including your travel to the office, lunch and anything else reasonably incurred during your daily duties.
To apply please write a max.200 word statement on what qualities make an excellent office intern along with a CV to Gavin the General Secretary.
Local Convenors (UK wide)
As part of the ongoing development of Compass has been encouraging the formation of local groups across the UK. This is a crucial step for Compass to continue to build its membership, to increase its influence and not just be seen as a London operation.
It’s envisaged these will meet on a monthly basis to primarily discuss Compass ideas – in particular hold discussions themed around Compass publications. At present there is a lack of quality progressive debate at the local level – the purpose of these groups will be to revitalise political debate at the local level around the key issues/challenges facing the democratic left.
In addition we want groups to be action focussed around particular policy campaigns Compass is advocating at the national level. Another important role is linking to other groups – such as trade union branches, community action groups and local groups of members from other pressure groups. We want groups to become positive change-makers in their local area.
If you're interested in helping to set up a local Compass group near you, or would like to be a Local Convenor please contact Gavin the General Secretary.
